Soju Mohanan Pillai

Hi, I'm Soju. I'm an Operations Engineer at the BBC.

I work behind TV.

Welcome to my corner of the web!

What I work with

Broadcast and
network systems.

Most days I'm keeping these systems running, and fixing them when they're not.

Things I'm
really into.

television

Broadcasting

I've always loved TV. Working behind the scenes, I appreciate it even more.

The stock market

I follow the markets closely and enjoy working out trends and strategies for the long run.

AI

I'm fascinated by it, and I keep finding ways to use it in my work and my own projects.

Where I've
worked so far.

  1. System Administrator, Twixt Technologies

Looked after Linux servers for clients in different regions. Set up monitoring and automated deployments, and learned a lot on the job.

  2. Technical Support Specialist, Atos

Tier 2 and 3 support for enterprise infrastructure. Led incident resolution for critical systems and automated fixes for common problems.

  3. Operations Engineer, BBC

I support the systems behind live production, from broadcast kit to the network, and help get things fixed fast when something goes wrong.

  4. Still at the BBC

And spending my spare time on AI and side projects.

When TV works,
nobody notices.

If viewers never think about what's behind the picture, we've done our job.

How I usually work

Spot it.Alerts and dashboards usually catch it first.
Fix it.Get things back to normal, fast.
Automate it.So the same problem doesn't come back.
Repeat.Usually with coffee.

Side projects

Things I've built
in my spare time.

Two things I work on outside the BBC.

01 · Stocks

VortexStock

My own stock market app.

It scans the market for setups worth a closer look, runs prediction models on them and puts everything in one place. I built it myself and I'm still adding to it.

In active development

02 · Local AI

Spark

My own AI server at home.

My own setup for running large language models locally. Apps connect to it the same way they would to OpenAI, and a few people can use it at the same time. I've spent a lot of time making it fast. No cloud costs, and the data stays at home.

Running at home

  • home lab and self-hosted apps
  • AI experiments
  • automation scripts
  • small web apps
  • a few half-finished ideas

And a lot more.

These two are just the ones I talk about most. There's nearly always something else on the go, from small tools to bigger builds.

Got a question
or an idea?

p.s. always happy
to talk stocks.
